ROOTS&ROUTES scouts, inspires & coaches young talented musicians, dancers and media makers who do not naturally find their way into the established stages, media institutions and art schools. Roots & Routes is a partnership between cultural, welfare and youth organisations, in which experienced artists and media-professionals work with young talent to develop their skills and put them to the test of the masters in a public arena. Inspirational workshops and masterclasses are used to prepare performances, staged at a major public event. Supporting this, in association with production companies, performance venues and art schools, Roots & Routes provides a wide range of follow-up activities in the so called Aftertime period – like band coaching, Roots & Routes Summerschool, production of promotional material, media training – to further professionalize proven talent.

From auditions to performances, the Roots & Routes media talents (young writers, radio- and filmmakers) are coached ‘on the job’ by media professionals as they produce reports to be aired by local and regional radio and television.

Roots&Routes is funded by the EU programme CULTURE 2000 from 2005 to 2008. In 2005 and 2006, there is additional funding from the German federal youth ministry programme ENTIMON. Routes&Roots Cologne is organized by JFC Medienzentrum Köln.
