ROOTS&ROUTES scouts, inspires & coaches young talented musicians, dancers and media makers who do not naturally find their way into the established stages, media institutions and art schools. Roots & Routes is a partnership between cultural, welfare and youth organisations, in which experienced artists and media-professionals work with young talent to develop their skills and put them to the test of the masters in a public arena. Inspirational workshops and masterclasses are used to prepare performances, staged at a major public event. Supporting this, in association with production companies, performance venues and art schools, Roots & Routes provides a wide range of follow-up activities in the so called Aftertime period – like band coaching, Roots & Routes Summerschool, production of promotional material, media training – to further professionalize proven talent.

From auditions to performances, the Roots & Routes media talents (young writers, radio- and filmmakers) are coached ‘on the job’ by media professionals as they produce reports to be aired by local and regional radio and television.

Over the next three years, ROOTS & ROUTES INTERNATIONAL will be organised in eight European countries: France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal. During the first year (2005/2006), a Roots & Routes edition will be organised locally. In the second and third year a selected number of music, dance and media talents will participate in international workshops and masterclasses and will share diverse cultural activities and on stage performances at major concerts. Experience and knowledge will be shared during several expert meetings.
